Announcing 2016 Workshop Schedule

The next step is to go dimensional...

For those who have been working in encaustic for a time and want to take their work to a new level, I am offering my new three day workshop, titled Encaustic Sculpture: A Melding of Surface and Form.

Workshop Description: In this workshop students explore the intensely rewarding experience of working three dimensional using traditional sculpture process of modeling, carving and assemblage combined with encaustic painting. The focus of this workshop will be creating lightweight armatures of polystyrene foam, a variety of foam boards, wire, natural and found objects with a variety of skins that are compatible to wax surface treatments.  Class will consists of demonstrations of the ten sculptural processes, presentation and discussion about 3-D design and sculptural engineering and slide presentation of contemporary artists working in encaustic sculpture.  Students can expect to take home small samples representing each process explored and pme fully waxed work.  In some venues there is an optional papermaking day as part of this experience.  Workshop fee includes most materials.  R&F Paint provides significant materials support as part of their CORE program, so students will take home encaustic materials as well as sample forms. No previous sculpture or papermaking experience is necessary, but prior work with encaustic materials is expected.

I am limiting my travel in 2016 to five venues throughout the country. My next workshop is scheduled for Southwest School of Art in San Antonio, Texas March 4-6, with an optional papermaking day March 3. The school is located on the banks of the San Antonio River with hotels a short five minute walk from the school and a river taxi ride from the museum district and downtown restaurants and night life.  Register for this workshop at Southwest School of Art and join me in their brand new sculpture studio and state of the art papermaking studio.
